Summer Trends: Pleats
After a long, cold winter, it is always exciting to get a fresh start with summer fashions! This summer has brought lots of great trends but my favorite of these is pleats.
Pleats are everywhere this summer and can be worn a variety of different ways. My favorite way to wear pleats this season is as long, flowy skirt which has a casual and summery feel.
I fell in love with pleats on a recent school trip to New York City. We visited a manufacturing company who has worked with top designers like Nanette Lepore and Oscar De La Renta. The owner of the shop showed my school group a new fabric they just got in; it was a beautiful pink ombre pleated material. The whole group loved it and a couple of us tried to bargain for it!
While in New York, I took a shopping trip to Top Shop in Soho and found this beautiful pleated skirt. It came in pink and one of the season’s hottest colors: Mint. The skirt’s back was longer than the front and it had flecks of metallic gold in it making it shimmer when you walked.
The reasons this trend is my favorite this season is because it is so timeless and a pleated skirt will never be out of style. Pleats are a classic look that always makes me feel like one of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s leading ladies. They can be worn in so many different ways but the pleats should be the focal point of your outfit. I will be pairing my skirt with one of the season’s other biggest trends; loose-fitting cropped tanks. Throw on a pair of strappy wedges and this outfit has a total bohemian feel. Anyway you decide to wear it; make sure to include pleats in your summer wardrobe!
